ROCKY HORROR: From Concept to Cult (Sanctuary Publishing, 2002)

In London, in 1973, in a tiny theatre in Chelsea a new rock musical was performed for the first time. Nothing remarkable in that. Dozens of rock musicals opened every month. And closed. But nobody could have predicted that THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW would become such a worldwide success…

In over twenty-five years, fans in over twenty-five countries have paid over $150,000,000 to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show alone. Half a million people have seen the theatre performance of the show in the past twelve months.

Sixty-seven cinemas around the world run the film every weekend.

There are now CD-ROM games, many busy websites and annual Rocky Horror conventions attended by thousands of fans.

No-one involved in the show thought it would be part of their lives longer than the initial three-week run.

Here, the show's creator, composer, its musicians, the actors, and its producer talk about the play's beginnings. The film's actors, the legendary Transylvanians, the creative technical staff and crew talk about making the movie. Those present at and responsible for the emergence and fostering of the cult of Rocky Horror share their memories of a lifetime of enjoyment which the Rocky Horror Show has brought them.

This is the definitive history of Rocky Horror, featuring interviews with all the major figures involved. The authors have also amassed a wealth of visual material and previously unpublished photographs.
