The long-awaited sequel to A CAGE
OF EAGLES, Follett's World War Two, prison-camp novel.
No 1 POW Camp (Officers) Grizedale Hall, is a prison camp run by the British
to house high-ranking, but politically cleared German officers. New arrival,
Karl Moehe, has the dubious distinction of being the first prisoner of war
to have broken into a POW camp, having earlier escaped from his guards and
leapt from a speeding train. Senior officer, U-boat ace, Otto Kruger, is less
than impressed until he discovers that this hapless junior officer holds the
key to overcoming a problem with a new secret weapon. It becomes imperative
for Moehe to escape and try and contact German Naval High Command, with this
information. Meanwhile, the British commanding officer, Major Reynolds must
keep order in the camp, and Commander Ian Fleming of Naval Intelligence (that
Fleming!) must tease out any information from the internees.
