David Render was a soldier, racing driver and successful businessman. He served in the Sherwood Rangers as a tank troop commander at the age of 19 finding himself thrown into a veteran tank unit a few days after D-Day.
Having survived the war, he raced Lotus cars. David was awarded the Legion d'Honneur by the French Ambassador to the UK shortly before his death in 2017. The Royal Armoured Corps have named their award for each year's top troop commander recruit , the David Render Award in his honour, and his memoir is a core-book on their syllabus.
